NYC CORE United Nations Racial Equity Summit 2026
September 4 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm EDT
NYC CORE and United Nations Working Group of People of African Descent are holding a one day Global Summit on Racial Equity
On September 4, 2026, the New York City Commission on Racial Equity (NYC CORE) will convene the Inaugural NYC CORE United Nations Racial Equity Summit 2026 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City, bringing together racial equity commissions from across the United States with international leaders, human rights experts and representatives from around the globe.
The historic gathering will be one of the first major summits centered specifically on connecting the work of U.S. racial equity commissions with the international movement to confront racism and materially advance reparations.
The Summit will be co-sponsored by the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, a United Nations body of five independent human rights experts established in 2002 to study racial discrimination against people of African descent and recommend solutions to combat it.
The gathering will move beyond traditional conversations about diversity and inclusion and focus on power, policy, government accountability and material repair — including the racial wealth gap, housing and land, education, health, economic opportunity, government investment, racial-equity budgeting, data and the lasting consequences of slavery and systemic racism.
