Brooklyn Talks: Dancehall in the Diaspora
November 17 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm EST
Please join @MaxGlazer for a very special talk with @originalredfox and @screechydan at @bklynlibrary’s Dweck Cultural Center to discuss Dancehall, the diaspora and their journey from Jamaica through Brooklyn that helped bring the sounds of dancehall worldwide.
We will explore it’s early days and the crucial period of the late 80’s into the early 90’s that shaped the sound from clubs like the Biltmore Ballroom, to President Street block parties and talk about how it wouldn’t have been possible without Brooklyn as the backdrop.
