Natty & The Rebelship- Motherland | Official Video (2018)

Taken from his 2017 critically acclaimed second album, ‘Release The Fear’ (which boasts collabs with AlborosieBusy Signal and George The Poet), Natty returns with these beautiful new visuals for his track ‘Motherland’. Natty is known for drawing on influences from various forms of ancestral music from across the globe, with ‘Motherland’ we see him celebrating the land of his mother, and the cradle of civilization Africa. The track also marks a line in the sand and a shift in his approach to music making. In the year in which he celebrates 10 years since his first album ‘Man Like I’ (which reached UK Top 20), Natty tells the world:

“Take these shackles off my feet – It’s time to start a fire, shake the earth and bring the rain”

The track also serves as lament to the over-complexities of modern life:

“Generation X lost in shorthand text, KMT going Africa to build myself a Babylon-proof best.”

The official music video, shot in stunning Sierra Leone sees Natty exploring the terrain on a journey to find inner strength. Theses visuals showcase a stripped back performance befitting of the track, as well as the stunning landscape. A place of significance to Natty, he has visited and performed there numerous times, having recently sent a container of aid relief for those affected by the floods in Freetown. Natty describes it as one of the “most beautiful places I can remember touring” and so made complete sense to shoot motherland video here.

Natty is an artist whose musicality defies genres, while still being firmly a rastaman making Rastafarian reggae music. Natty maintains total authenticity to his own truth and his own creative process, not a man for cliches or hyperbole.
